1. AGILE DATA CENTRE: 42 ANNOUNCEMENTS
The most important announcements deal with the VMAX (high end) family that gets the new 10k, 20k and 40k machines and with the VPLEX software that 'dissolves the distances' between data centers.
EMC has also put the spotlights on the Flash technology, of which it is a pionnier. Customers have testified that 1% of Flash can take care of 40-50% of the IOPS issue and 5% of Flash can deal with up to 70-80%.
2. INFORMATION INTELLIGENCE GROUP
2.1 Documentum was not a star at EMC World 2012 as they are waiting for the big Documentum announcement that should occur later this year. However, they managed to attract attention via the acquisition of Syncplicity, a software house proposing a solution close to DropBox to share file between all users' terminals, including mobile ones.
2.2 On the contrary, Greenplum was given a lot of presentation time to get mind share for its products in the analytics and big data area: the complete solution UAP (Unified Analytics Platform), and its componenst Greenplum Database, Greenplum Hadoop and the new orchestrator Chorus. Also a session dedicated to its partnership with SAS leveraging the latter's solution HPA (High Performance Analytics).
3. VMWARE VIRTUALIZATION
Best keynote in my opinion for Paul Maritz positioning VMware solutions in the context of the current decade which sees the transition between the IT world we have known for the last 40 years based on 'data only, relational database and transactions' technology to the new era which will be based on 'real-time, data & events, in-context' technology.
Preview of what will be announced at the VMWorlds 2012 a fter the summer.
4. SECURITY, RSA
RSA has its own conference cycle, so there was given a refresh of the announcements made last February with an emphasis on the mobile security developments, the 9th capability of the RSA portfolio.
As a reminder, the 8 other modules are: authentication, access control, Data loss prevention, Encryption, Fraud prevention, GRC, Network Security Monitoring and SIEM.
